Danba

Aba Prefecture, China

Located in the Garze Tibetan Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China is the picturesque Danba County at 1,900 meters above sea level. Also called Rongzhag, the county capital is Zhanggu town which is in a deep, beautiful valley. As the town has many ancient watchtowers, it is also called the “Kingdom of thousand watchtowers”. These towers are 100 to 200 years old. One of the most popular attractions (a much-photographed one) in the Danba County is the holy mountain called Gyelmo Murdo. This mountain is revered because it looks just like Mount Kailash. The county is famous for the round walnut bread or cake which is a specialty of the Hui Muslim minority groups.
