Located in Anyang, Henan Province, China is the Tomb of Yuan Shikai (Yuan Lin). This historical tourist attraction was built to honor Yuan Shikai, a brilliant statesman and army officer during the Qing Dynasty. He had initiated and implemented a number of judicial, fiscal, educational, and bureaucratic reforms to improve the efficiency of the army and the governmental machinery. When the last Qing Emperor abdicated, Yuan Shikai tried to maintain the status of the monarchy by temporarily declaring himself a Hongxian Emperor and later the first President of the Republic of China.
