Beijing Drum Tower (Gulou)

The two-storied structure of the Beijing Drum Tower (Gulou) has been standing tall since the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties and has seen a lot of history. The first floor is the office of the China Committee for the Promotion of the Minority Art. On the second floor is the exhibition area where the large drum is kept. The Drum Tower is surrounded by stores, cafes, and businesses and has been a hub of commercial activity since ancient times. Popular among these are the vendors selling folk art, handicrafts, and other Chinese souvenirs at affordable prices. Climbing to the top of the tower will give you a panoramic bird's eye view of the city.
