Green Wall of China

The Great Wall of China was built to protect the nation from invaders from the north. The Green Wall of China is slated to be the most proactive and spectacular effort in reforestation and to protect the nation from the northern cold winds. According to the survey conducted by Greenpeace, only 2% of the original forests are still intact. The rest is a dry and arid desert. Hence the ambitious tree-planting project called the Three North Shelterbelt Project. Since the year 1978, the Chinese people have planted nearly 66 billion trees. By 2050, it is estimated that a green-wall of trees will stretch over 4,500Kms along the northern deserts in order to cover 42% of the land with trees.
