Tanzhe Temple

Considered the oldest Buddhist temple near Beijing, China the Tanzhe Temple is just 40Kms from the city center. This 1,700-years old Jin Dynasty temple spread over a vast area of 25,000 square meters because it was extended during the Ming and Qing Dynasties too. The Mahavira Hall with its exquisite Buddhist statues and colorful glazed-tiled roof is the main part of the temple. In the courtyard there are two 38-meters tall gingko trees that are believed to be 1,000 years old. The Vairochana Pavilion is a must-see too. Its ancient brick artwork depicting phoenixes and dragons (symbols of prosperity) is superlative.
