Putuo Zongcheng Temple

The 18th-century Putuo Zongcheng Temple is located in the Chengde County, Hebei Province, China. It is a Buddhist temple built during the Qing Dynasty. Its grandeur is equivalent to that of the 17th century Potala Palace of Tibet which was the Dalai Lama’s residence. Spread over a vast area of 220,000 square meters, it has 44 halls, numerous pavilions, landscaped gardens, and awesome statues. The most striking image is the 2-meters tall Palden Lhamo, the statue is a ferocious form of the Buddha. The tiles on the roofs of the buildings are plated with gold and copper, thus adding to the magnificence.
