Nine Dragon Screen

Datong, China

Considered the largest glazed screen in China, the 600-years-old Nine Dragon Screen in Datong, China is a masterpiece in ancient Chinese art. It was built during the Ming Dynasty and is in a perfect condition even today. The screen is made from 426 specially created glazed bricks. It is 8 meters tall, 2 meters thick, and 45 meters long. The pedestal is a rectangular block of 75 glazed tiles that form shapes of dogs, rabbits, oxen, deer, and other animals. The main body has a greenish wave-like shape in the lower part and the top has blue skies and yellow clouds, mountains, plants, grass, stones, and other scenic elements made with glazed tiles.
