Built in 1661, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is located in downtown Hangzhou, China. With its classic Roman architecture and lavish interior, the Cathedral is one of the most beautiful churches in the Hangzhou region. It was designed by Martino Martini, the Italian Jesuit missionary, historian, and cartographer who worked mainly in imperial China. He settled down in the picturesque West Lake region of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province and travelled all over China to collect geographical information about the nation. The Cathedral is a place of worship even today and masses are held on Sundays and at Christmas time.
