Xilitu Lamasery (Xilituzhao si) in China is a Tibetan-style palace built during the Ming Dynasty. It was the residence of the 11th Grand Living Buddha and is the biggest existing Lama temple. It is believed that Xitituge the teacher of Dalai Lama IV ascended to the Holy Seat of the Dalai Lama. When he returned, he changed the name of the temple to Xilitu which means “holy seat” in Tibetan language and “Zhao” which mean temple in the Mongolian language. The main building is decorated using bright and colorful glazed tiles. The roof and inner walls have gilded bronze ornaments as decorations. The temple complex also has a magnificent 50 feet high tower.
