This Taoist Temple is China’s biggest copper temple. Its history dates back to Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the 17th century. It is also called Tongwa Temple and it was built to honor Zishi, the hero-god of Taoism. The temple is located on Singing Phoenix (Mingfeng Hill) and is a part of Taihe Palace.
As you enter the Golden Temple Park, you enter a series of “Heavenly Gates” decorated with carved beams and painted archivolts. The location in the mountainside is extremely peaceful and abundant in pine trees and other plants. The Bell Tower stores a 16.5-feet high bell and you can also find a sword that weighs 44 pounds in the temple. It is believed that the sword belongs to a Taoist deity Zheng Wu.
