Nam-tso or Lake Nam came into existence during the Paleozoic era when the tectonic plates moved and the Himalayas were formed. The lake is situated at a height of 4,718 meters above sea level and is one of the highest and most picturesque salt-water lakes in the world. It is little wonder that Nam-tso means "heavenly lake" in Tibetan. With crystal blue water, spectacular snow-capped mountains, rolling grasslands, and the cleanest air around it, the lake is a place of serenity and natural beauty. Occasionally, you will see Tibetan nomads and their herds of yak climbing the mountains for fresh pastures.
