In 1937, the Japanese invaders occupied Nanjing and committed one of the cruelest massacres in human history. According to reports, the enemy army executed more than 300,000 people. Most of them were civilians or soldiers that bore no arms.
The Memorial Hall dedicated to the victims was built in 1985 and today covers over 300,000 square feet. The location wasn’t chosen by accident as Jiangdongmen is known as one of the places where there is a mass grave with 10,000 corpses. You can see the bones from corpses excavated from the site.
Both outdoor and indoor exhibits remember the massacre in forms of sculptures, documents, photographs, and other displays.
