The Ocean University of China, also known as Haida, is a university in Qingdao and the largest of its kind. As it one of the eminent comprehensive universities in China, it comes under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education. Besides offering courses in all regular branches of natural and social sciences as well as engineering, the university is well-known for its specialized courses in marine sciences, oceanography, and fisheries sciences. The architecture of the university is more German than Chinese and is known for its attractive structure. The marine-related courses are taught from the undergraduate level up to research and doctoral level. The university has 39,500 local students and 900 overseas students at present.
