One of the picturesque gems of the Qingdao region of China is the island of Xiao Qingdao.
It has a lighthouse that was built during the German occupation in the year 1900. In 1914, the Japanese occupied the island after attacking the Jiaozhou Bay. Due to the numerous foreign attacks and occupation, the island was a restricted area because of the military presence till 1987. Now the island is open to the public so there are special tours available for tourists to visit the lighthouse and the botanical gardens where the famous Qingdao white lilies grow.
