The Chongshan Monastery is a royal temple, located in the Shanxi Province of China. Built during the Tang Dynasty, originally this temple covered an area of 14,000 square meters. It had six large halls, 18 courtyards, and innumerable smaller rooms. But in 1864 the temple caught fire and the main buildings were destroyed. Only one large hall was left, which has been converted into a museum. Since then, the local government has preserved the artifacts that were saved from the fire. You can see an exquisite scroll written by Jing Jie, a monk during the Ming Dynasty. He used his own blood as ink to write the religious text. The original drum and bell towers are also intact and worth a visit.
