The history of this temple started during the Southern Dynasties (420 – 499). It was established as Dongshan Temple and changed names a couple more times before it was called the Baotong Buddhist Temple for the first time in 1485. It has kept that name until today.
Thanks to its long history, the temple has numerous cultural relics. The most impressive ones are the Bell of the Song Dynasty and two stone Lions of the Ming Dynasty. You can also visit the Hongshan Pagoda of the Yuan Dynasty, which has seven floors and offers a breathtaking view of the city from the top.
