Yellow Crane Tower is situated on Snake Hill in Wuhan and it is one of the most famous towers on the south side of the Yangtze River. According to the legend, it was built at the beginning of the Three Kingdoms Period (223 – 289) by a local pothouse owner. History suggests that the King of Wu’s army used it as a watchtower.
However, as the time past, Yellow Crane Tower became an attraction instead of serving for military purposes. Today, you can find many drawings, pictures, and poems that describe the beauty of the tower and the area. If you climb to the top of the 168-feet tall structure, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the river.
