Xi’an City has its own Muslim Quarter located in its downtown. The Drum Tower marks the start of the street on the south side. The street is paved with stone and filled with stores, shops, and fast-food restaurants that are all owned by Muslims. However, the structures resemble the time of Qing and Ming dynasties.
Moslem Street in Xian has a long history. It is believed that everything started in ancient times when foreign diplomats who wanted to marry and live in the city built houses here. Over time, the population of Muslim grew. Even today, they are a community that is tight-knit and devout to Islam.
