The Shen Residence is located in Zhouzhuang, Jiangsu Province, China. It is the former home of Shen Kuo who was a great statesman and an expert in many fields. He excelled in mathematics, astronomy, meteorology, geology, biology, pharmacology, archaeology, cartography, engineering, finance, diplomacy, poetry, music, and more. Shen Kuo was a member of the Bureau of Astronomy and the Imperial Minister in charge of Hospitality. His “Dream Pool Essays” has the first mention of the magnetic needle which was later used as a navigation tool. The 100-rooms Residence is a museum showcasing his works like mathematical calculations, engineering designs, the magnetic needle compass, notes on Chinese medicines and therapies, etc.
