Located in the western part of the Heilongjiang Province of China is the beautiful prefecture-level city of Daqing. Since 1959, the city has grown into one of the most affluent and well-developed urban areas of the province when the Daqing Oil Field was established. The word “Daqing” literally means “great celebration”. Daqing City has proved true to its name by providing China with many reasons to celebrate. Besides a rich resource of petroleum, the city has provided the nation with a perennial tourist destination that looks beautiful even during the harsh winter months. Surrounded by wetland nature reserves, hunting grounds, and snow-capped mountains, the city is a popular tourist site.

Zhalong Nature Reserve – This wetland reserve is spread over a vast area of 2,100 square kilometers. It lies on the migration path of many Arctic birds that fly in to avoid the severe winters of Russia and the Gobi Desert. The region is full of freshwater marshes, reeds, and countless little pools that are perfect breeding grounds for nearly 300 species of birds like the cranes, swans, egrets, etc. The birds here are protected by the State and hunting is prohibited.
Lianhuanhu Scenic Area – Contrary to the Zhalong Nature Reserve, the Lianhuanhu Scenic Area is the only waterfowl hunting ground in China. Here, hunting game is legal. It is a summer resort that is located not too far from Daqing City on the western side of the Dorbod Mongol County.
Lianhua (Lotus) Lake – This tourist attraction is an artificial lake or reservoir that formed when the Lianhua Dam and Hydroelectric Power Station was built. Not only is the dam itself beautiful but the region surrounding the lake is also very picturesque. Every season shows the lake in a different light! In the spring season, the waters reflect the bright colors of the flowering plants in the vicinity. In the summer season, the surrounding mountains are alive with waterfalls, rivulets, springs, and fresh fruits. The lush greenery is abuzz with birds and little animals. The lake looks golden in the autumn season when the waters reflect the yellow-orange hues of fall. In the winter season, one can see unusual natural sculptures of ice formed on the mountains when the rivers, pools, and waterfalls freeze due to low temperatures.
Daqing Petroleum Science And Technology Museum – This is another must-see of Daqing City. Visiting this museum will not only be educative but will be an enjoyable experience especially for kids. The exhibits pertain to petroleum technology and military vehicles.
Other tourist attractions worth seeing near the city of Daqing are the Dumeng Grassland and the Lindian Hot Springs.
