Hohhot Great Mosque

Hohhot, China

The Hohhot Great Mosque was built in 1693 by Hui merchants who came to Mongolia to sell their wares. They built the mosque in a combination of the Han Chinese and their own Islamic styles to honor their hosts. This is especially true of the minarets, which look like a combination of Islamic minarets and Chinese pagodas, making it one of the most unique mosques in the world. So the building looks like it has a crowned pavilion-style roof at the top. It was built with black bricks which is typical of imperial China mosques. Today, the place has just one minaret that was added much later.
