Established in 300 A.D. during the Jin Dynasty, the Jiming Temple in Nanjing has the distinction of being the only Buddhist monastery on the south-eastern coast of China. Legend says that Emperor Liang Wu Di lived here like a monk four times and was known as Emperor Bodhisattva. The architecture follows the Chinese pagoda style. Being a place of worship even today, this attraction has an element of sanctity, peace, and serenity that is characteristic of Buddhism. While you are in the area, you can also visit other attractions like the Xuanwu Lake Park, Taicheng City Wall, and the Nanjing Museum of Paleontology.
